Izmir Chamber of Commerce organized the 9th North South Europe Economic Forum in cooperation with Institute for European Affairs. The Forum took place on November 3rd and 4th in Izmir, Turkey.
This year's forum was themed "Turkey - a strong partner for Europe". Headed by President Gül, State Presidents of Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia and Monte Negro and more than 400 personalities from economy, politics, administration and science from more than 30 nations discussed the Turkish approach towards Europe. In additional Business Round Tables the chances for a lasting and trustworthy partnership between the EU member-states and Turkey and the possibilities for economic co-operation with Turkey were highlighted.
The conference started with a very exciting item of the agenda: the political leaders of the states of the greater region of South-Eastern Europe opened the event with introductory speeches. The purpose to provide the international audience with comprehensive information on Turkey as a business location and business partner was pursued by the "Turkey in the European Business Media" panel.
At the same time, the "Cooperation in Sciences" panel emphasized the importance of cooperation in the scientific sector that necessarily accompanies economic relations. The Izmir Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for European Affairs did not only join forces to organise this 9th Annual North South Europe Economic Forum, but have also taken another joint decision: since August 2008, the INEA branch office for Turkey is operating from within the Izmir Chamber of Commerce's premises.
More top-level activities are planned within the fields of culture, business, economy, science for 2009. These activities will be announced in our website as well.
